A Manta Ray glides in front of me like a giant bird in the immense blue waters of the South Pacific. Mantas in French Polynesia can reach about 17 ft / 5 meters in width. They travel alone or sometimes in groups that can have dozens of mantas. They eat plankton like shrimp and krill. Sadly they are hunted for their gills that are used in Chinese medicine.
